EEG Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback, aslo called EEG Biofeedback, is direct training of brain function by which the brain learns to function more efficiently. This training uses an equipment to record brainwaves and provides audio-visual feedback to the individual undergoing training. This feedback helps the individual to self regulate brain activity by bringing it under voluntary control. Self- regulation is a necessary part of good brain function.
During training, electrodes are placed at certain locations on the scalp and brain wave activity is recorded. A computer provides instantaneous audio-visual feedback about the brain wave activity to the individual. The person undergoing training then attempts to modify his/ her brain waves.
Everytime the desired change is made, computer based positive feedback is provoded. Through the guided techniques, the client is able to significantly increase brain waves that are compatible with stringer attention, focus, and enhanced mental performance. The individual learns to create "better" brain waves automatically, a skill which quickly generalizes to everyday life.
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive treatment modality which has some of the positive effects of psychotropic medicines and no side effects. Neurofeedback training can be started as early as age three, if the child is able to follow directions. Neurofeedback is known to be helpful with clients with certain conditions including but no limited to:
- Attention
- Impulsivity
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Stress realted Disorders
- Language Deficits
- Sleep Disorder
- Seizures
- Migraines and Chronic Pain
